Form, Feel, and Feedback
The Misfit Smart Scale was designed to expand the Misfit ecosystem beyond movement and sleep, giving users a clear view of weight and body composition as part of their overall fitness journey. It represented Misfit’s first step into connected health beyond wearables – a continuation of the brand’s belief that meaningful design should fit seamlessly into daily life.
The concept explored a soft geometric form with gentle curvature and a procedurally-textured surface. Like Misfit’s watches and activity bands, it followed a language of clean geometry with tactile texture where the body makes contact. The housing was intentionally plastic, chosen for its warmer, more comfortable feel underfoot compared to glass or metal. The form itself was meant to feel like a soft pebble underfoot – smooth, natural, and subtly contoured to invite daily use.
The Weight of Progress
The project was ultimately canceled during Misfit’s acquisition by Fossil Group, as the new strategy shifted to focus exclusively on wearable technology rather than broader health devices. Even so, the scale captured where Misfit was heading before the acquisition: a more holistic, human-centered approach to health that combined smart technology with warmth, comfort, and everyday usability.
